The Gujjar are a pastoral community that used to be nomadic but many now live in settled communities. The word Gujjar is derived from the term gaucharana, meaning to graze cows. They are a well-built people, medium to tall in stature.
Gurjar or Gujjar is a pastoral agricultural ethnic group with populations in India, Pakistan, and a small number in northeasternAfghanistan. Alternative spellings include Gurjara, Gojar, Gūjar, Gurjjara, and Gūrjara. Although they are able to speak thelingua franca of the country they inhabit, Gurjars have their own language known as Gujari. Religiously, they are Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs.
